Three deep drawers in the chest. The nightstand has an open shelf under the top and a drawer below, so a book and a lamp sit out and everything else stays hidden.

The pulls are carved directly into the drawer fronts, with no hardware sticking out and nothing to catch a sleeve on. Both pieces stand on a sculpted sled base with brass plugs at the legs, which lifts them off the floor and keeps them from reading heavy in a small room. The walnut across the chest drawers is matched as one face — the grain runs side to side without a break.

Restoration
Both pieces were refinished by hand: stripped, repaired where needed, and the finish built back slowly. The color came back warm instead of the orange tone these go when the original finish ages, and the grain reads clearly rather than sitting under a muddy film. Drawers run smooth, joints tight, nothing sticking or wobbling.

These are vintage pieces, not new ones. Refinishing takes them a long way, but it doesn't erase sixty years — expect light marks here and there. That's part of what you're buying.

Specifications

Maker: Stanley Furniture Co., Stanleytown, Va.

Era: 1960s

Wood: Walnut

Chest: 32"W x 19"D x 30"H

Nightstand: 20"W x 14"D x 24.25"H

Condition: Refinished by hand, excellent for its age with minor signs of use

A bit of history
Stanley Furniture was founded in 1924 in Stanleytown, Virginia by Thomas B. Stanley, who later became Governor of the state. The company built its name making architecturally serious design affordable for ordinary families, and its mid-century work is what the brand is collected for now. Most of what surfaces today has a tired top and sun-faded fronts.

How it works in a room
The chest isn't only a bedroom piece at this size — it works in an entry, at the foot of a bed, or as a low console. The nightstand doubles as an end table beside a chair or sofa.

Delivery

Delivered to your home in NYC, NJ, Philadelphia, and eastern PA.
